Southfield, Michigan, July 29, 2008 — On Friday, June 27, 2008, a lightening strike caused a transformer fire in the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center in downtown Detroit. The fire and ensuing smoke damage resulted in the Center being closed for over a week. Before the fire was even out, Guardian Security officers were deployed around the facility to ensure that no unauthorized persons gained entry while the fire was being fought.

After the fire was out, an army of clean-up and restoration workers moved in. To adequately protect the facility, the temporary clean-up workers, and their equipment, Guardian Security was tasked to add as many as 50 additional officers per shift.
